Saying Loki was a good guy was definitely stretching it. But saying he was still a bad guy wasn't giving him enough credit. Did he occasionally pull costly destructive harmless pranks on the city of New York, and specifically Avengers Tower? Yes! Did said pranks ever hurt anyone who wasn't named Thor? No. It was fun watching the mortals run around, but causing them pain was just too boring. They broke to easily. At least that's what he told the SHIELD psychologist when they somehow got him into a session after he literally made it rain cats and dogs over Central Park (no animals were harmed).

One thing was blindly clear to everyone who observed one of his pranks: Loki would never harm a child. In fact during one robot attack he surprised the Avengers by swooping in and putting out a children's hospital that had been set on fire to lure the Avengers out. The following day the mad scientist who had orchestrated the whole thing ended up hog-tied on the deck of the Helicarrier.

This had somehow lead Thor to the conclusion that Loki would be a good babysitter for his and Jane's children. It had started out very strangely: Jane was at an observatory, getting time with one of the most powerful telescopes on the planet and Thor had gotten the call to Assemble. Loki wasn't sure how he got his cellphone number (probably Stark. It was always Stark), but Thor had called him in the middle of the night, pleading with him to come watch the children.

Somehow he ended up agreeing. And somehow he ended up liking the children, even if they did have Thor's blood in them. Loki liked to think their mother's intelligence balanced things out a bit. Now a days it wasn't uncommon for Loki to pop in and visit, or whisk the children away for a day. (The first time it had happened Thor thought he'd kidnapped them. When SHIELD spotted them in Disney World he calmed down a bit.)

Today was such a day. Thor was out on some mission half-way across the world and Loki wanted to see the children. So he politely informs JARVIS via his phone that he is coming, and pops into the middle of Thor and Jane's floor at Avenger's Tower.
